In an effort to remind residents to not let their guard down when it comes to terrorism, the Department of Homeland Security is launching an advertising campaign in the Washington region to encourage people to report suspicious activity to local police.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Tuesday announced that the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign will be expanded to the D.C. area.
The advertisements, which feature the slogan along with a young man with an intense gaze, are meant to remind commuters and others to be vigilant and call police if they see something that concerns them.
"Homeland security begins with hometown security," Napolitano said.
Napolitano, joined by dignitaries including Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), District Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier and Fairfax County Police Chief David M. Rohrer, timed the announcement to coincide with National Night Out, an annual anti-crime effort
